- Joseph McCullough (1779-1853) was married to Mary Cowan and ran an inn in southern Greenville County, SC. The property is called Cedarhurst. McCullough immigrated from Northern Ireland and first appears in a census in 1820. After his death and that of his wife in the 1850s, his son James McCullough took over the property. Based on census records and other documentation, approximately 80 men, women and children were enslaved at various points at Cedarhurst between 1820 and 1865 - though the average number at any one time was much lower. DNA results indicate that some of the enslaved children born at Cedarhurst were the children of Joseph McCullough.

- A spreadsheet has been created mapping out the movements of enslaved people at Cedarhurst and related properties (belonging to Joseph McCullough's children) and can be shared available on request by email.
