By indenture dated 16 June 1836, THOMAS KERSHAW and JAMES H. CLAIBORNE acquired a large, existing plantation in Washington County from CORNELIUS and SUSAN HARING. The plantation was situated on the Mississippi River, just below and adjoining the town of Princeton. The plantation was described as being Lots 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Section 10, and Lots 5, 6, 7, and 8 of Section 9, all in Township 14 Range 9W. Along with the land, Kershaw and Claiborne acquired furniture, farm utensils, cattle, horses, mules, sheep, and oxen. They also acquired Haring’s 32 EP who lived on the plantation.
