This payroll acknowledges that Francis S. Holmes, Superintendent, Sixth District, Confederate States Nitre and Mining Bureau, paid slave owner T. Street Burdell for work performed by his slaves Primus, Joe, Joe Jr., Grace, Eugenia, Polly, Dorcas, Captain, Bella, Tenah, Solomon, Billy, Silvia, Linda, Katy, William, Charlotte, Anthony, Jessy, Cretia, Tommy, Pino, Nancy, Clara, Judy, Ben, Charles, George, Lucy, Hannah, West, Hetty, Sampson, and Jacob at the Ashley Ferry Nitre Works (South Carolina) in September 1863. All the slaves were laborers and were "supplied daily with rations by the C. S. Commissary at Charleston, S.C."
