Actual documents attached to post on FB site I have Guardianship/Probate docs, 1859 Madison, TN from Drury Clantons grandson, Josiah Clanton 1806-1857, where it looks as if his eldest daughter from 1st marriage and 2nd wife are fighting for custody of 1 of the slaves named Kelly. Still working on transcribing but slaves are named and wanted to put this out there. Penny, an elderly woman, Moses, Austin, Albert & Alfred listed as young boys, June or Jane listed as a young girl. Listed at bottom of 1 doc slaves listed are Penny, Tenor?, Ann, Lucy, Jane, Moses, Kelly, Austin, Alfred & Albert. Still looking for Jeremiahs Will. Last Will & Testament of Drury Clanton-9 Oct 1781 Sussex, Virginia Naming Slaves; Toney, Judy, Ransom & Mingo In the name of God Amen I Drury Clanton of the Parish of Albemarle and County of Sussex being sick but of sound mind and memory do make this my last will & testament in manner and form following..Imprimis I give unto my loving wife Sarah Clanton during her widowhood, the use of my plantation and land, thereunto belonging 200 acres also the use of 3 negroes, namely Toney, Judy and Ransom and all the blacksmith tools that are called Toneys tools and after her widowhood I give my plantation and land thereunto belongings and Toney and his tools to my son William, Judy to my daughter Elizabeth, and Ransom to my son Jeremiah to them and to their heirs forever. I also leave my wife my stock cattle and hogs one her named Spark One more named Peg and all my household and kitchen furniture, my plantation utensils Item I give and bequeath to my son John one negro named Mingo and all the blacksmiths tools called Mingos, one feather bed and furniture ?? pewter plates, two dishes and one likely horse bridle and saddle, four head of cattle, two sows and a pig to him and to his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth one likely negro girl or boy, one feather bed and furniture, one horse bridle and saddle to her and her heirs forever. Also, it is my will and desire after the widowhood of my wife all the remainder part of my estate of what nature or kind TOP of Pg2 so ever should be equally divided among my 4 children, namely, John, William, Jeremiah and Elizabeth to them and to their heirs forever.
