Edwin Ellis inherited his enslaved from his father Joseph. On 1860 Slave Schedule he had 11 enslaved, all of the same family consisting of mother Lydia Ellis, b 1815 and her children. known names of children were Hayward , b 1838, Mary b 1844, Nicey, b 1842, James, 1844, George, b 1850, Penny, b 1852, Missouri, b 1854, John, b 1856 and Peter, b 1861. I believe Lydia's husband Hamp Ellis was enslaved next door with Edwin's widowed sister-in-law Zilpha Ellis. Many of the above enslaved are named in a family biography written by Edwin Ellis' granddaughter
