James Anderson, Sr. (1690-1751) of Goldmine Plantation, Virginia owned slaves named Aaron, Ned, Cate, Peter and Robin. The following is quoted from his Will: “… I give to my son James Anderson all my estate he hath now in possession and also five pounds current money of Virginia an after the decease or marriage of my wife Rebecca [née Cook] one negro man named Peter, and my large Bible to him, and his heirs forever.” Source: 1751 Will of James Anderson in ‘Will Book 9’, Page 772, Surry County, Virginia “The accouterments of the home can be determined by examining the complete estate listing in 1751 of James Anderson. From the estate list we know that to run the household his wife's had at their disposal: One Negro Boy Aaron; One Negro child Ned; One wench Cate...; One Negro man Peter; One Negro man Robin...” Source: “Estate listing in 1751 of James Anderson” “The Goldmine plantation was named from a creek which flowed through it and emptied into the South Anna River, a southern branch of the Pamunkey, St. Martin’s Parish, Hanover County [Virginia]. … Goldmines is on the west side of Gold Mine Creek just north of Rockville, which is 20 miles northwest of Richmond on Highway 160.” Source: “Anderson Family Records
