Moses Stallings (1762-1836) was born in North Carolina and moved to Wilkes (later Oglethorpe County, Georgia) after the Revolutionary War. He died in 1836 and at the time of his death had approximately 25 slaves. He died intestate and one of his children (Silas) sued the estate so there are numerous court records listing the names of the enslaved as the family battled over property. Moses' widow and younger children moved to Russell County, Alabama, by 1840 and took some of the slaves with them.
