General John McPherson was a native of Prince William Parish who owned at least 6 plantations. Over 450 enslaved ancestors are listed in an 1806 inventory of his estate. You can find the indexed inventory at Lowcountry Africana (https://www.lowcountryafricana.com/enslaved-ancestors-estate-john-mcpherson-sc-1806/). John McPherson's 1803 Will identifies how many, and which specific few are to allotted to which of his four children (Elizabeth Mary, James, Nancy and Susan) and wife (Susannah). Both documents are good reference points for those researching enslaved populations held under descendants of McPherson and allied families including Pringle, Creighton, Alston, and Greaves. The particular branch of research has led me from McPherson to Estes to Brookes.
