Slaveholder was Magdalena Winfield Kain. Her husband James left her in his will dated 15 May 1779 a "malato childe Billy". In her own will dated 02 Nov 1793, Magdalena "give and it is my true Will and desire that my boy William be and forever shall remain a free man to his own use forever hereafter And also I give and bequeath to my said boy William the just and full sum of Ten pounds of good & lawfull money to be paid to him by my Executors, herein named out of my personal Estate to be his own property his heirs and assigns forever." She also ordered her executors to "Sell & dispose of my Two young Negro wenches named (Ginny & Phylanda) to such person or persons as their Mother Mary shuses [chooses?], provided that those persons be the highest bidders for said Negro wenches".
